On Monday nights I now go to a special place to release all of my daily frustrations and cares. I have decided to take tap dancing classes once a week this year.
I'm not completely a newbie by any means. At the ripe old age of 3 my parents crammed teenie little tap shoes on my feet and totted me back and forth each week to Daryll Jarvis dance studio, in Toledo. I loved to dance. Thus why athletics were not of any importance to me, when I was a kid. I danced all the way up until my 7th grade year when I started cheerleading (we will save that one for another time).
Consumed by my teen years I forgot all about my love for tap until, I entered a pageant. The River Raisin Festival is in the summer each year, and they hold a queen competition. I thought it would be humorous to enter and do stand-up comedy for my talent. Well, that was until I found out that my mother had "Toddlers in Tiaras" pent up frustrations. Seriously, she was a pageant Nazi and I was forced to think of a real talent. And there was old faithful...tap dancing. I took a few lessons to brush-up, the only problem was the teacher was a hack. So when show time came around it was a disaster of acting/simple moves. Not to mention, that my mother made me rent a red flapper outfit with a huge feather to adorn my head. To this day if anyone brings that event up I get pissed and walk away. Be warned that I may punch you in the face at the mention of it.
I decided recently to put all my past tap tragedies behind me, and put on the ol' tippity taps again. The class is a blast as it's filled with older women and a few younger girls. It's really funny to see women in their 6o's doing irish's across the floor. The best part is that I have a recital in May where, I have to wear a costume. I found out last week we are dancing to a Cake song which I am very excited about. So if you want to come and see me make an ass out of myself again your welcome to. Just make sure to bring me flowers.
Shuffle...STEP!!!!!!!!!!
